SON THE GIFTED

RAPPER/MINISTER/FATHER/HUSBAND

Son the Gifted (born Terrell Dwayne Batson) was born and raised in the Bayview-Hunters Point district of San Francisco, CA. Raised by a single working mother, Terrell spent most of his early years at his grandparents house and development a bond with his grandfather; who became the dominant male figure in his life. Terrell was very introverted as a child, and often quiet and shy when it came to interacting with people. He always kept a small circle of friends and avoided being around large groups of people. Growing up in the Hunters Point district, known for its violence and crime, Terrell found many outlets to keep himself out of trouble. His favorite being football and poetry. His dream was to grow up, go to college, and play for UCLA. But after the death of his grandfather, Terrell went into a stage of depression, which ultimately led him to fall into the life he tried so hard to avoid. With a stint of smoking and selling drugs, thoughts of suicide and severe anxiety attacks; he knew his life was spiraling out of control rapidly. On October 22, 2000 at the age of 15 Terrell attended his aunts church and dedicated himself to Christ. That day he was saved and changed his life. He continued to walk by faith throughout his high school years being an adamant believer and follower of Christ.

While in grade school, Terrell was constantly praised for his ability to write poetry. He saw it as a way to express himself without actually speaking. He soon joined the schools poetry class and one of his poems was selected to be in the schools weekly newsletter. He thought nothing of it, until one day he was introduced to rap music. Instantly Terrell fell in love, the ability to take your thoughts and words and put them to an instrumental excited him. At the tender age of 8 he began writing raps, all the things he thought he put down on paper. To better hone his craft he began listening to all types of rap music, from E-40 & The Click to 2Pac, who soon became his favorite. Other influences later on in life included Nas, DMX, Fabolous and even Cashmoney Records. After Terrell gave his life to Christ and became saved, he knew he wanted to use his talents to glorify God. He started listening to Christian Hip Hop as a means of inspiration. Artists such as Gospel Gangstaz, Cross Movement and Easop. At 16 Terrell decided to pursue music under the name Young G.H.O.S.T (Gods Humbly Ordained Spiritual Teacher) After a few failed attempts in rap duos and rap groups he became a solo artist under the name Young Son. In October 2007 Young Son put out his first solo mixtape entitled The Rising of the Son Vol. 1. Over the next several months he put Volumes 2 and 3 up until August 8, 2008 when he released his first digital album "KINGDOM" under the alias Son. Following his 2008 album Son released two more mixtapes, Step Ya Game Up Volumes 1 & 2 before he changed his stage name to Son The Gifted. To him rap was a God given gift and he wanted to share that gift with anyone who would listen. With influences from CHH artists such as Lecrae, KB, and Gemstones; Terrell would continue to grow into his craft.

In February, 2014 Son The Gifted officially joined the Lyrical Opposition family. Although he was an affiliate he made a commitment to be an instrumental part of the team.
