Brittany Williams is a writer and poet from Georgia who's mission as an artist is to bring life to words that bring life to people. She comes from a very diverse background. Her roots come from a British-Jamaican mother and a West Indian father, but she was born in Colorado, and raised in the heat of Atlanta. As a young kid she wanted to be an architect because she loved the idea of designing and building new things. She wanted to change the world and she figured the best way to do that was to redesign it. But she also wanted to be an 'artist'. She loved to sing, and compose pieces of poetry based on the thoughts of her young mind and started writing in the 5th grade when she received her first journal for Christmas. But it wasn't until she shared an entry from a free writing session at an open mic her senior year in high school that she realized the power of the spoken word. This revelation set Brittany on a journey to embrace her identity as an artist, but It didn't happen overnight or easily. She struggled with thoughts of having to choose between being an 'artist' and being what others thought she should be; responsible. After some setbacks she put her desire to write, design and be a performing artist on hold to finish her degree in landscape architecture and environmental design. But after college she began a path to discovering who she really was which took her around the country and around the world and eventually landed her in San Francisco where she was introduced to Lyrical Opposition at a Valentine's Day open mic. Almost instantly her heart was connected to the hearts and vision of the artists and community members of LO. Today Brittany performs as a Lyrical Opposition poet as well as helps the team build the mission of creating a safe, positive and dynamic community for those like herself to discover who they really are, find their voice and embrace their identity as artists.
