Ruby Ibarra // Artist Spotlight via MYX TV

In 2011, Cross Allan from Lyrical Opposition first interview for MYX TV was with up-and-coming Filipino-American hip-hop artist Ruby Ibarra at San Francisco State University.

MYX TV is a television channel catering to Asian-American youth culture, with a focus on highlighting Asian music artists and personalities.

During the interview, Cross Allan asked Ruby about her background growing up in the Bay Area and how her Filipino heritage influences her rap style and lyrics.

Ruby provided insights into her creative process for songwriting and production. She explained the meaning and inspiration behind some of her most popular tracks that blend English and Tagalog rhymes over hard-hitting beats.

The interview aimed to introduce Ruby Ibarra's unique brand of bilingual, Filipino-influenced hip-hop to MYX TV's Asian-American audience and introduced the up-and-coming Bay Area rapper to showcase her skills and story to a wider platform early in her rising career.

For viewers, it was a chance to discover one of the emerging artists helping put Filipina rap on the map and diversifying representations in hip-hop.
