Ninja Warrior // Interview with Corey Lightner, VG Designer // Lyrical Ones

At the E3 gaming expo, Cross Allan from Lyrical Opposition interviewed Corey Lightner, a Video Game Designer at XSeed Games and Marvelous AQL, about their upcoming release Ninja Warrior.

Ninja Warrior is a side-scrolling action platformer inspired by classic ninja games as well as the long-running Japanese sports entertainment show Sasuke/Ninja Warrior. Players control an acrobatic ninja traversing treacherous obstacle courses filled with deadly traps.

During the interview, Cross Allan asked Corey about the design philosophy behind capturing the spirit of the Ninja Warrior television competition in video game form. They discussed realizing the thrills of attempting daring feats of speed, agility and endurance.

Corey provided insights into the level design process of crafting increasingly extreme gauntlets that test a player's ninja skills to the limit. He highlighted the gameplay's nuanced controls for pulling off precise parkour-style movements.

The interview allowed XSeed and Marvelous AQL to generate hype for this unique modern take on the ninja action genre ahead of its release. It gave E3 attendees a first glimpse at Ninja Warrior's challenging platforming and obstacle-based level design in action.
