Hyphy Theology: Live Music + Art Gallery
On Friday, April 11th, Hyphy Theology was an immersive night of faith, culture, and creativity at 99 Leland Ave in Visitacion Valley. This event was in collaboration with Kairos Fellowship and New College Berkeley. The underlying theme of this event transformed the sacred season of Lent into an artistic experience rooted in the rhythms of the Bay Area. Through dynamic performances by Marjé, SFG, and Fego Navarro, alongside powerful poetry from Aleja Ajela and hosted by the ever-engaging Ashley Budelli, attendees were invited into a bold, spiritual exploration of wilderness, resistance, and reflection.
This year’s theme challenged artists to visually express what Lent means in 2025—exploring identity, empire, and transformation. The event also featured a community call to action: a duffel bag drive for foster youth, recognizing the over 4,000 children in the Bay Area in need of care and dignity.
Hyphy Theology continues to celebrate the sacred in the creative, the divine in the everyday, and the pulse of the people through the lens of music, art, and theology.

Hyphy Theology is an experiential and empowering expression of faith and culture, inspired by the Bay Area’s hyphy movement and the deep exploration of Creator through theology. It celebrates the beauty of divine creation as seen through the unique lens of Bay Area geography, music, art, poetry, and illustration. Rooted in inspiration and authenticity, Hyphy Theology is inspired by the sacred in the creative, the spiritual in the everyday, and the presence of Creator in the pulse of the people.

This year, we want artists to express what Lent means to them in 2025 through visual art. Whether it’s the journey of self-reflection, the concept of wilderness, the struggle between empires and people, or the decisions and challenges we face, we want to see how you interpret this sacred season.
This Lent season, we are collaborating with foster youth for a duffel bag drive. We encourage you to donate new or gently used bags at the Art Gallery on 4/11/25.
There are over 4,000 foster kids in the Bay Area.
This event is in collaboration between Lyrical Opposition, Kairos Fellowship and New College Berkeley.
